Morgan Bahl, a junior in nutritional science, was one of three College of Human Sciences students to participate in the Heddleson Summer Internship this year, along with Haley Wellman and Raeann Hanlon. The program is designed to prepare individuals for a potential career with Human Sciences Extension and Outreach and learn about its research-based educational programming and delivery. When Iowa students build financial literacy skills, they�re better prepared to make wise financial decisions for their future in an increasingly complex world. Financial literacy education provided by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach includes Take Charge Today, an evidence-based financial literacy curriculum developed by the University of Arizona for middle and high school students. Family and consumer sciences educator Glenda Seward uses the curriculum with her students at Mid-Prairie High School.

The classes reduce stress, improve caregiving confidence, provide problem-solving tips, and help participants find balance in their lives. Kids live and learn healthful habits when they participate in the Immersion in Wellness camps.


Good nutrition and exercise go hand in hand at that camp, where kids garden, cook and eat the fruits of their labor, ramp up their physical activity -- and learn that healthy living can actually be fun. Drawing from Iowa State's extension and outreach, the human sciences, 4-H, and research, the camp advances the science and technology of living and learning.
