I was responsible for...
I was responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facility. I cleaned towels and equipment, I repainted areas that needed it, I watered the plants, etc. I was also responsible for observing, participating, creating, and leading some group fitness classes. I observed and even worked with some clients one-on-one. Lastly, I was responsible for some of the business aspects. I checked-in clients, received payments, deposited money, and helped create yearly and monthly reports.

I accomplished...
During this internship I was able to work with a variety of people, I was able to do mock personal training sessions with the manager and assistant manager. During those times I learned how to work with injuries, diseases, athletes, and overweight clients. I also became certified and gained some continuing-education credits that will help me in the future.

I learned...
Learning how to give functional fitness assessments was one of the most valuable learning experiences that I encountered. I can now properly assess someone so they can develop strength from his or her deeper/stabilizer muscles and connections to prevent injuries and correct incorrect form.

I will never forget...
Being in charge of the studio for 2 weeks while the manager and assistant manger were gone was the most memorable experience that I obtained from this internship. I was in charge of majority of the business aspects, the other trainers, clients, and the studio itself. I opened the facility every day and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Advice for others...
My advice to other students is to get as much relevant experience in college as possible. Employers look to that first. I worked at Ames Racquet and Fitness, Kosama, ISU Recreation Services, and more! Also get certified with one of the top certification companies: NASM, ACE, ACSM, etc. I have had a lot of interviews with employers and that are always impressed with my background.
