I was responsible for...
Over the course of this internship I perfected my skills taking vitals (blood pressures, heart rates, oxygen in the blood, etc.) by taking the vitals of each of the patients during exercise. Along with this I worked with coworkers to progress exercises to help each patient progressively get back to or close to how hard they could work before their event. Not only was I helping the patients get better, but I also found myself getting better acquainted to the heart and lungs and drawing more knowledge out of diseases, different equipment, different tests, etc. I also was able to sit in on interviews for the new patients and get an idea of who the patient was and what they were going to, which I found made it easier to help them progress.

I accomplished...
The greatest accomplishment I have taken from this experience is the marketability I obtained. Not only was I able to get a background in cardiac rehab, the heart, and the lungs, but I was also able to get a little taste of personal training when certain patients asked to help them with certain exercises.

I learned...
The greatest lesson I took from this experience was that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. After working with a range of demographics, I realized that some of our older patients were able to do much more than the younger patients. Along with this, I also learned that even though they don't seem like they're doing much, at least they're trying to better themselves.

Advice for others...
My advice would be to always say yes to the opportunities the internship offers. For example, I was asked many times to go watch a stress test, pulmonary function test, and echo and although I didn't feel like it was necessary I decided to try it and it was one of the coolest things I had seen. I am also more marketable now because I have hands on experience with these things. Don't knock it until you try it.
