I was responsible for...
During this internship I spent the majority of my time working with National Centers of Animal Health (NCAH) employees. I provided them with health coaching, sent out weekly health tips to employees, managed the BSDI Worksite Wellness Software, created a Step Challenge for employees, designed an incentive program for employees, hosted a Lunch-and-Learn about how to use BSDI software, assisted with the coordination of vendors to attend the Annual Health Fair, and hosted a Health & Fitness Day where employees could attend group HIIT sessions during the day. Another part of my internship was helping with the ExerCYse is Medicine group. I updated the Exertol Bottles, and created promotional materials about the benefits of exercise that will be used by ISU Student Wellness, and Theilen Health Center. I also assisted the ExerCYse Time intern as needed with other club activities. Another activity during this internship was talking to the HS 380 class about my internship experience.

I accomplished...
The greatest accomplishment from my experience was the planning and hosting of our Health and Fitness Day at the NCAH. It was very cool to get a large group of employees exercising together. It was also my first experience with leading a group fitness class, which is something I never thought I would do as a CPH intern.

I learned...
The most eye-opening thing that I learned about was what it's like try to run worksite wellness programs in the real world. We had little to no budget at the NCAH, which made planning large events difficult. Anything extra we wanted had to be either paid out of pocket by the Work Life Wellness Committee, or it simply didn't happen. The employees time is also very limited at NCAH. Since it's a government building and they are government employees, they have very little freedom with their time. Anyone who wanted to receive health coaching from me, or personal training from the other intern, had to use their personal time - 30 minute lunch or 15 minute afternoon break. Anything more came out of their vacation bank. So it was very difficult to get people to participate because of this.

Advice for others...
You never know how you will find your internship, so it's important to talk to everyone and network as much as you can.
